THE ART OF HEALING

Grounded, in partnership with Dr. Julia Basso, a neuroscientist and Director of The Embodied Brain Lab at Virginia Tech, is exploring how arts-based practices can improve biopsychosocial health across the lifespan, which will be evident at both the level of behavior and the brain. We are examining this hypothesis over a period of three years.

ARTS ENGAGEMENT ENHANCES MENTAL AND SOCIAL HEALTH

Early findings show that arts engagement acutely improves mental health, social connection and increases brain activity in frequency ranges associated with concentration and problem solving.

These findings underscore the therapeutic potential of art in fostering cognitive stimulation and emotional well-being.

Grounded is creating an experiential exhibition exploring neuro-arts through Grounded’s creative works. The immersive gallery experience will be open to the public at Virginia Tech in 2025.

INITIAL FINDINGS

Dr. Julia Basso and her team from VA Tech presented initial findings of the Grounded collaboration at the 2024 Society for Neuroscience Conference in Chicago, IL.
