GROUNDED IN EDUCATION

Since 2018, the Grounded Learning Experience has reached more than 2,000 students at Elementary, Middle, and High Schools.

Crosstown High School, an XQ Superschool in Memphis, TN., completed the Grounded Learning Experience during the winter of 2022-2023. This video shows first-hand how students are engaging in creative writing, visual arts, music engagement, movement, and mindfulness to build coping skills to deal with the challenges of everyday life.

In the fall of 2023, Perea Elementary School in Memphis, TN. began implementing the Grounded Learning Experience. After a visit from the Grounded team and special guest filmmaker Nabil Elderkin, fourth and fifth graders were inspired to make their own music video to show their Perea school pride!

ART + MINDFULNESS

The Grounded Learning Experience promotes the unique power of creative expression to help students and educators process and respond to daily life.

Each of the curriculum’s 10 modules touch on the art of mindfulness, fundamental psychology, understanding human emotion and chronic stress, harnessing creative expression to build empathy, resilience, and connecting with community through authentic collaboration.

GROUNDED AMBASSADORS & FELLOWS

Following completion of the Grounded Learning Experience, students have the opportunity to apply for the stipend-supported Summer Ambassador Program and year-long Fellowship Program to deepen their engagement. Applicants propose and develop creative projects that will have a positive impact on their community.

HEALING THROUGH CREATIVE PRACTICE

A section of the Grounded Learning Experience, which focuses on mindfulness, peace and justice, has been included in a new community effort called Healing through Creative Practice (HTCP).

The HTCP curriculum was developed in partnership with Quiet, Lunarsol, Question Culture, and Atelier South to share with 33 prisons of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. It harnesses the healing power of art and community. Through mindfulness, creative writing, music, and visual arts, participants go on a journey of self-care, storytelling, and connection.

Participants in this milestone course can receive a one-week sentence reduction.
